Origin

In 1931, Ferdinand , along with Adolf Rosenberger and Anton Piëch, established Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche GmbH. The business first provided consultation and vehicle . Relationship with Volkswagen

Together, they produced the VW-Porsche 914 and 914-6 in 1969 and, later, the Porsche 912E and 924, which used Audi parts. Models from Volkswagen and Audi share platforms with the 2002-introduced Cayenne.

Corporate restructuring

Porsche Zwischenholding GmbH and Volkswagen AG were founded as holding companies for the family’s shares in Porsche SE in June 2007. their cars are made by Porsche AG, a of VW AG. Porsche SE and VW AG decided to combine their auto production businesses in August 2009. 2015 saw SE acquire a 52.2% stake in VW AG.

Initial public offering

In February 2022, Volkswagen AG announced plans for a possible IPO of Porsche AG. their share capital is divided equally between non-voting preference shares and ordinary shares. Volkswagen AG will retain 75% of ordinary shares, while Porsche SE will acquire 25%. During the IPO, 25% of preference shares will be sold, with Investment Authority committed to buying 4.99%. The company’s value was estimated at 75 billion euros, with shares initially sold at 82.5 euros each, rising to 84 euros on the first day of trading.

Australian eFuel operations

Australia announced intentions to establish Australia’s first efuel production plant in Tasmania in April 2022. It will open in 2026 under the name HIF Tasmania Carbon Neutral eFuel Plant.

Production and sales

Their primary factory and headquarters are located in Stuttgart’s Zuffenhausen, where the company makes V8 and flat-6 piston engines. Parts are assembled in Bratislava, Slovakia, while the Cayenne and Panamera are manufactured in Leipzig, . In 2012, the production of Boxsters and Caymans was moved from Finland to Germany. Since 2011, Porsche’s Zuffenhausen facility has grown dramatically. It is made significant earnings per unit sold in 2015, selling 218,983 cars worldwide. They celebrated producing their one millionth 911 in May 2017. In August 2021, they announced that it will open its first production facility outside of Europe in Malaysia.

Production composition

It produced 246,375 vehicles in 2017, including the Macan, 911, Cayenne, Boxster/Cayman, and Panamera models. Production grew to 321,321 cars by 2022, with more 911, Boxster/Cayman, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, and Taycan models produced. With more over 5,500 sales in November 2016, Porsche set a record for the United States. Base costs for the 911, 718, and Panamera as of March 2024 range from $114,400 for the 911 to $99,900 for the latter.
