A festival is defined as a commemorative or celebratory event that unites individuals for a purpose or occasion which is usually a cultural or social event. Festivities are organized in a period of one year and most of them contain practice of music, performance, dance or rituals, or togetherness events. Some festivals are typical religious ones like Diwali or Christmas, some are only cultural such as Carnival and Chinese New Year; others are seasonal for instance celebrating some crops or phenomena of nature. Festivals instigate a great sense of community and happiness as people are given the opportunity to celebrate customs, culture and ideals. Most of the time, they include feasting, dressing up and certain practiced behaviors – all contributing to a joyous atmosphere that engages everyone in the celebration.
