Plot
Inside Out 2 follows Riley, 13, as she attends hockey camp and begins high school. To control her basic nature, her emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust—create a Sense of Self. Disruptions arise when new feelings like envy, ennui, embarrassment, and anxiety show up. Anxiety seizes the initiative, discards the sense of self, and imprisons the past feelings. The ancient emotions are freed, the Sense of Self is recovered, and Anxiety is persuaded to cease changing Riley with the aid of a shadowy person. Riley makes amends with her pals, and all feelings come to terms with one another while defending Riley’s developing sense of self.

Production
Development and writing
Following the success of Inside Out in 2015, a sequel was widely expected. In 2016, director Pete Docter started organizing. In September 2022, Inside Out 2—which has Meg LeFauve as writer, Mark Nielsen as producer, and Kelsey Mann as director—was revealed. Mann whittled down the list of new feelings to concentrate on important ones like anxiety and envy. In order to authentically portray contemporary adolescence, Pixar conferred with teenagers from “Riley’s Crew,” which resulted in the incorporation of the sentiment Nostalgia.
Casting
Poehler, Smith, and Black play Joy, Sadness, and Anger, respectively, in Inside Out 2. Hale and Lapira as Fear and Disgust took Hader and Kaling’s place after they declined due to financial disputes. Following a tearful audition, Hawke signs on as Anxiety. Later on, Squibb joins as Nostalgia. Riley’s parents, Lane and MacLachlan, return, and Edebiri, Exarchopoulos, Hauser, and Tallman join as new feelings. In supporting roles are Brown, Nuriddin-Green, Lu, and Lilimar.
