Atishi, a senior member of Aam Aadmi Party (), has been unanimously selected as new Chief Minister of Delhi. This decision was made on September 17th 2024 after current Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name for this position to be his successor.I

n wake of Arvind Kejriwal stepping down, Delhi's Minister Atishi has been announced as new Chief Minister by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

A meeting has just been held in by AAP chief Kejriwal where he announced that Atishi would take charge of Delhi till the next ; she would have to carry CM Arvind Kejriwal's dream along and this city's destiny. AAP released a statement saying this on Tuesday night.

Kejriwal revealed on Monday he is resigning as Chief Minister of Delhi after spending some time on bail for corruption probably considering his arrest and the corollary of political circumstances surrounding it as a “political conspiracy” arising out of Modi's .

In days gone by Keriwal had called upon Indian citizens before considering their opinion about him when he stated: “I am here today to ask you if I am honest or criminal… I shall quit position of CM two days from now and then ask people if I am an honest man”

As an expert on the prime minister's , Kejriwal is a former anti-corruption activist who has been the chief minister of Delhi since 2015. The Aam Aadmi Party, which he leads, is part of the Congress led alliance.

Just recently, India's Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal after having been detained for six months over alleged irregularities in the 's liquor policy.

After the announcement was made she told reporters: “For some time before state assembly elections that will be held in February next year I will take over as chief minister.”

She further stated that Arvind Kejriwal, who is her mentor (considering him as an outgoing leader), should go through another election and be re-elected into office by Delhi people.

Speaking from her modest background Atishi said she owes all this to Kejriwal considering himself like a godfather; mentor thus making it possible for her to become professionally qualified enough to join (that is being an MLA and then minister), finally ending up being entrusted with chief minister's position.
